Vienna Police Department

The Town of Vienna Police Department began in 1947 with a single Town Sergeant. We now have 41 sworn and 11 civilian employees. Our motorcycle unit was formed in 1986 when we initially purchased two Kawasaki Police 1000’s. The 2 full time motor officers worked 8 hour shifts Monday- Friday 7am-3pm doing traffic enforcement and funeral details. In 1991 we expanded to 5 Kawasaki’s after we added 2 officers and a riding supervisor. The 5th Kawasaki was provided to us by the Fairfax County Police Department when they converted from the Kawasaki’s to Harley Davidson motorcycles.

In 2006 our agency switched from the Kawasaki’s to the current Harley Davidson Road King’s. We currently have 4 HD’s and our full time motor officers ride year round.

In December of each year our motor officers participate in Santa’s Ride for Children. This ride delivers donated toys to hospitalized children and families of wounded veterans throughout Northern Virginia. In conjunction with the Fairfax County Police Motor Squad and several others our officers dress as “elves” and go to schools and other government buildings collecting the toys and delivering them while riding police motorcycles.
