Texas Highway Patrol Motor Unit

In the early days of the Department (1935 until early 1950's) the Highway Patrolman rodeHarley Davidson motors but automobiles were phased in after WWII.  In the late 1970's the Department again tried to use motors for traffic enforcement on the highways, but after losing two patrolman over a short period of time these motors (Kawasaki's) were also retired from service.
The 1934 Harley Davidson is on static display in the DPS Museum and a Kawasaki is on display the DPS Academy.
