Wood Heights Police Department

Wood Heights, MO is located on the western edge of Ray County, MO.  The population of the town is around 800 people.  The police department is part time, and is mostly a traffic enforcement style department.  I am the Lieutenant of the Traffic Division.  The department "fleet" consists of one unmarked traffic car, and a 2000 Kawasaki KZ1000 Police Motorcycle.  I personally own the motorcycle, and the department maintains and funds operations for it.  The motorcycle was first accepted by the city council and mayor, and put on the road in April 2010 on a limited basis.  After completing motor school at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, KS in July of 2010, I use the motor at all times, weather permitting.  Temps above 25 degrees, no hail or snow or ice.  Otherwise, I ride.  The motorcycle has been a great success, for decreased maintenance, much more economical on fuel, and a great public relations tool.  There have been countless times people have stopped or walked up and talked to me on the motor while running radar enforcement.  I am also the only motor officer in Ray County, as well as the counties to the north, south, and east.
