In the early years of Police Motorcycles, Departments would hire men that owned motorcycles to be motor officers.  Training was what the rider knew at that time.  After WWII the Motor Officers had more training due to military training.  Organized training across the United States in the Mid 70's.  Today, most agencies require at a 40 to 80 Hour Course.
