El Cerrito Police Department Traffic Safety
Unit
The El Cerrito Police Traffic Motor Unit was established in 2003, with one motor officer, one motor sergeant and we have
always ridden Harley Davidson Police Motorcycles. Today the Traffic Unit has increased to four officers with two assigned
to ride daily. We receive incentive pay for riding the motorcycle and we have won awards from California Law Enforcement
Challenge for our overall traffic safety in 2006 and 2007. (2008 results are not available yet). The
El Cerrito Police Traffic Unit are a regional motor officer training department and have our course offered certified
by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. There are 25 police agencies in Contra Costa County where El
Cerrito Police Department is located, and we regularly finish in the top three for DUI related arrests for the year
and during specialized enforcement campaigns.
